Carrageenan

Food-grade carrageenan is approved, but degraded forms cause intestinal inflammation in lab animals and studies disagree on how much degradation happens during digestion. Common in pâté-style cat food.

Corn gluten meal

Frequently used to inflate the protein percentage without adding meat. It's low in some amino acids pets need, so it's a poor substitute for animal protein.
